This story of John the Baptist puts it into right perspective. How many Christians want to have the top ministry, be the top preacher, evangelist, teacher, prophet, youth worker, writer, etc…
John’s goal! “I am the voice of the one calling in the desert, make straight the way of the Lord.”
Mark 1:3
John’s disciples began to leave John to follow Jesus. The crowds diminished. Even some of John’s remaining disciples were upset. How would we feel if others began to leave to follow someone else?
What was John’s response? He could not be happier! “That joy is mine and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”
John 3:29-30
As far as John was concerned, he couldn’t be happier. Our purpose in life is simply this. It’s not about me, but it’s simply being a LIVING SIGNPOST, pointing the way to Jesus.
As we walk out the door this morning, let’s pray that people will be drawn to the Jesus in us. Give us the opportunity to point others to You today Jesus.
Thinking back in my early years, it wasn’t those people that the newspaper would write an article about that made a difference in my life. It was ordinary people who had struggles of their own that I hardly knew, pulled a $20 out of their pocket and gave it to me, or said I am praying for you or loved me in spite of myself. It were people who were transparent to point me to Jesus in the midst of my chaos.
My prayer today is that people would look right passed us and find Jesus.
