“As the deer pants for the water, so my soul pants after You, oh God. My soul pants for God, the living God! When shall I come and appear before God?”
Psalm 42:1

This Psalm reminds me of a scene in the movie, The Hiding Place. The psalmist enemy’s is mocking him saying, “where is your God?” Corey Ten Boon was in a concentration camp for Jews and her fellow prisoners asked her the same thing, “where is your God?” Her response was, “if you only knew His love”.
Two different responses from those who were in the same boat. It was like two people looking at one picture and coming up with two different views.
We can learn from the psalmist here, in what changed his view. He turned to worship and prayed. I love the view of a deer panting for the water. Folks, that is what changes things for us in the middle of our pain. Our soul pants over finding our God. The Living God!
You see, when we are dry, we experience hopelessness. This is where Corey’s friends and the psalmist enemies were at. They were dry, filled with hopelessness because they did not experience the living God.
Without Gods Word and His presence, we are lost, helpless and spiritually dead. Folks if that is you and you are saved, you need reminded that we serve the living God! The God of life, the God who reawakens the soul!
So my question for you is this. How desperate are you for the presence of God? As the deer pants for water, does your soul pant for Him, the living God? This psalm was written to remind us of the hope we have in Him in the middle of our pain. Those who see the sun behind the clouds are messengers of hope today, for those looking for hope!
Let’s learn from the psalmist and from Corey in what we do when we are dry. Our soul pants for the living God!
